Polish court cancels $6.3 billion Gazprom fine

Poland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Court has ruled to cancel $6.3 billion in fines, levied against Russia’s state-owned natural gas company Gazprom and other companies involved in the construction of Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, Polish news outlet TVN24 reported on Nov. 21.

The country’s Competition and Consumer Protection Agency said it will appeal the decision. In 2020, the body fined Gazprom for building Nord Stream-2 without Warsaw’s permission.

Besides Gazprom, five other companies – Engie Energy, Uniper, OMV, Shell, and Wintershall – were fined.

The fines were set at maximum legally allowed amounts – 10% of annual corporate revenue.
