Russia hits Kyiv missile plant after flagship Moskva is sunk

Russia struck a missile-making factory outside Kyiv overnight on April 15 as revenge for the loss of the Russian guided missile cruiser the Moskva, the press service of state defense sector company Ukroboronprom said in a post on Facebook.

"This happened after the 'consumer goods' of Ukrainian production – as claimed in Nazi Russia – sank the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet worth up to $1 billion," reads the post.

Ukroboronprom said the factory Russia attacked, the Vizar Zhulyany engineering plant, made parts for the very missiles that hit the Moskva, causing the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet to catch fire and then sink.

"It was two RK-360MC Neptune missiles manufactured by a number of public and private enterprises that destroyed the cruiser Moskva of the aggressor country."

Ukroboronprom stressed that despite the attacks on Ukrainian defense companies, Ukraine has the means to fight, and the volume of deliveries of military and special equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is continuing to grow.

The concern also asked the media to "limit the information provided to them by official sources at their own initiative."

Earlier on April 15, the Head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Pavliuk announced that the Russian invaders had launched three missiles at facilities outside the capital city of Kyiv.

Flagship Moskva was hit by two Ukrainian-made Neptune anti-ship missiles, fired from a coastal battery, on April 13.

Late on April 14, Russia's Defense Ministry announced that the cruiser had sunk.

Natalia Humeniuk, the press secretary of the Coast Guard of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, said that the Russian invaders had failed to evacuate the crew of the cruiser due to the storm. However, the Russians claim that they evacuated the crew.

Forbes Ukraine estimates the value of the Moskva to be around $750 million, making it Russia's most expensive single loss of equipment in the war by a large margin.
