Russia inches towards Lysychansk in Luhansk Oblast

Capturing minor settlements nearby, Russian troops are getting ever closer to launching their assault on the city of Lysychansk in Luhansk oblast, head of the regional administration Serhiy Hayday said in a Telegram post on June 22.

According to Hayday, Lysychansk is already under dense fire from Russian artillery, air force, and tanks.

“At least three civilians and several policemen were injured,” said Hayday.

“The police, prosecutor’s office, and Security Service of Ukraine buildings withstood (Russian) missile strikes.”

Fighting continues on the streets of Severodonetsk – just across the Siverskyi Donets River from Lysychansk. The villages of Synetskyi and Pavlohrad, in addition to Azot chemical plant, were hit with Russian artillery.

The capture of the village of Toshkivka on June 21 enabled the invaders to project their firepower to other nearby settlements, as they are advancing towards Bila Hora.

Lysychansk officials warned on June 20 that civilian entry to the city would soon restricted, as the battle for control of the city is expected to start soon.
