Repressive measures intensify in occupied Kherson

Russia’s repressive machine grew more active in occupied Kherson on Ukraine’s Independence Day, deputy head of the Kherson regional council, Yuriy Sobolevskyi, said in a Telegram post on Aug. 25.

More patrols, checkpoints, raids,” said Sobolevskyi.

“Most locations with a Russian flag are guarded. The invaders are well-aware than even more people than usual are eager to tear those down on this day.”

The occupation regime is ramping up the search for members of Ukrainian resistance in the region, even offering cash rewards for tips.

“However hard it may be at times, people believe in Ukraine’s Armed Forces and wait for them to come, wait for liberation,” Sobolevskyi added.

According to a recent report by the Ukrainian military’s Operational Command South, locals in the occupied areas of Kherson Oblast are disrupting Russian preparations for a sham “referendum” that would seek to legitimize Moscow annexing the region.
