Thousands are involved in the resistance movement in Ukraine’s occupied territories

In the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, thousands of people are already involved in the resistance movement, performing various operations, the head of the Ukrainian Security and Cooperation Center, Serhiy Kuzan, told Radio NV on May 26.

“I would not like to answer this question, because the information is under control of our special services, the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, and Special Forces Units, which have taken on this coordinating role in organizing the resistance movement,” he said in response to a question about the resistance movement.

“There are definitely thousands of people in different regions of Ukraine, there is definitely an increase in influence. At the beginning, we had only hundreds of partisans, but as the population saw life under Russian occupation, more and more people join the movement, thousands of people in all regions, including Crimea.”

Entire partisan units are operating in the occupied territories, Kuzan said.

“Of course, to blow up the railway, to assassinate the entire leadership and political staff and the power bloc of the invaders, as it was in Luhansk Oblast, as it was in Zaporizhzhya Oblast - such acts require special skills,” he noted.

“And of course, under Budanov's leadership, such specialists were trained, and this showed its effectiveness in how insecure the Russians feel, how many different rallies have already been organized. But in addition, there is an ordinary civilian population, and not all people have the appropriate skills and abilities to carry out such rallies,” Kuzan added, referring to the current chief of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov.

Kuzan also pointed out that even minimal activity in favor of the resistance movement is a signal of significant support for the partisans.

“Therefore, even sticking a leaflet up is already a big help to our resistance movement, because even one leaflet is a demonstration of Ukraine's presence in the occupied territories and this means that any invader will not feel confident,” he emphasized.

The law “On the Fundamentals of National Resistance” was put into effect in Ukraine on Jan. 1 of this year.

According to the law, the leading role in the organizing, preparation, support and performance of resistance tasks should belong to the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the movement will be led by the Special Operations Forces Commander.

Thursday, May 26 is the 92nd day of Ukraine's defense in a full-scale war against Russia.
