Ukrainian forces lose around 50 soldiers every day of the war, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with French news media outlet Ouest-France on Sept. 23.
He noted that Russian loses are estimated to be five times higher.
“We have estimates of daily losses, but they are not exact; it’s around 50 people per day,” said Zelenskyy.
“Ukraine lost five times less soldiers than Russia did.”
While the president said he gets daily casualty reports from Ukrainian military commanders, he noted that “you have to be very careful with these figures – we’re talking about human lives.”
According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the Armed Forces of Ukraine has lost over 9,000 troops over the course of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Ukraine’s General Staff reports suggest Moscow has lost more than 56,000 troops in the war thus far, in comparison – a ratio of about 1:5.
