At the same time, she did not rule out that the Russian soldier could be swapped for Ukrainian fighters from the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol.

The woman also told the court the details of her husband's murder.

According to her, early on Feb. 28, her husband, Oleksandr Shelipov, "went to look at a shell crater." At that moment she heard a shot, opened the gate of her house and saw Shishimarin with a machine gun in the back window of a car.

After that, the woman hid and waited for the car to leave. Later, she opened the gate again and saw her husband, who was already dead. She added that her husband was dressed in civilian clothes.

In turn, Shishimarin addressed Shelipova: "I admit that you can't forgive me, but I beg your forgiveness."

During a court hearing on May 18, Shishimarin pleaded guilty to killing a civilian in Sumy Oblast.

This is the first trial of a Russian soldier for crimes committed during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, on Feb. 28, a 21-year-old Russian soldier murdered an unarmed resident of the village of Chupakhivka, Sumy Oblast. The victim had been riding a bicycle along the roadside. The man died on the spot, a few dozen meters from his house.
