AliExpress blocks sale of drones to Russia

Chinese online marketplace AliExpress has restricted the sale of drones from DJI and Autel brands to Russian customers, Russian Telegram channel Mash reported on March 2. Cheap commercial drones are used extensively by both Ukrainian and Russian troops to surveil the opposing force and even deliver explosive payloads.
In particular, on the AliExpress Russia store page, the option to buy drones from DJI and Autel was cut. The drone product cards remained, but when choosing a specific product, the store returns an error “This page doesn’t exist.”
NV checked the possibility of buying drones on AliExpress using a VPN. With VPN turned on and rubles selected as the currency, drones were indeed not available on the marketplace.
As was previously reported, AliExpress’ largest shareholder, Alibaba Group, has eschewed further investment into AliExpress Russia after Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukriane.
