Azerbaijani holding company NEQSOL is not interested in purchasing Alfa-Bank (now Sense Bank), one of Ukraine’s largest banks, despite its size and brand in Ukraine, Volodymyr Lavrenchuk, Regional Director for NEQSOL in Ukraine, explained in an interview with NV Business on Dec. 26.

“In the list of our projects, there was and still is the development of the ecosystem,” he explained.

“The holding has such a powerful asset as Vodafone Ukraine, so this strategy remains relevant. The formation of the ecosystem should obviously include financial instruments. But it is not necessary to buy or create a bank for this – it will not add much added value to the ecosystem. A financial company or fintech would suit much better.”

He believes that the acquisition of the former Alfa-Bank will not have a strong effect on the growth of the number of customers for the company’s other assets.

“One million of them are actual cards, and I want to be very careful in the comment, probably much less,” he said.

“On the face of 17 million subscribers of Vodafone Ukraine, this increase would not be significant.”
