The pumping of oil through the Druzhba pipeline in Poland resumed after repair work was completed, the operator of the Polish section of the pipeline, Pern, stated on Oct. 15.
A leak was discovered on one of the lines of the Druzhba oil pipeline about 70 kilometers from the Polish city of Plock on Oct. 11.
Pern stated that supplies have now resumed through both lines of the western section of the pipeline. The investigation into the cause of the leak is ongoing.
“Swift and decisive action allowed us to limit the consequences of the incident as much as possible and restore full-fledged service to our customers,” said the president of the Board of Pern, Pavel Stanczyk.
The pipeline is the main route by which crude oil enters Germany. In Poland, the leak is considered to be an accident, as the Polish authorities deny the possibility of sabotage or the involvement of third parties in the incident.
The Druzhba oil pipeline was built in the 1960s. It runs from Samara to Belarusian Mozyr, and then is divided into two lines: the northern (Belarus - Poland - Germany - Latvia - Lithuania) and southern (Ukraine - Czech Republic - Slovakia - Hungary - Croatia).
