Ukraine’s DTEK Naftogaz energy company has acquired development rights for two natural gas fields in Poltava Oblast, the company’s press service reported on Nov. 29.
The company will pay UAH 1.102 billion ($30.1 million) to the state budget for the development of Mayorivska gas field and UAH 211 million ($5.7 million) for the development of the Birkivsko-Zinkivska field.
“DTEK has been studying the possibility of investing in these areas for a long time,” the message says.
“In general, they (investment amounts) are expected at the level of several billion hryvnias. The successful development of deposits in these areas will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s energy independence.”
Both sites will be part of the company’s general model for the development of gas fields in Poltava Oblast.
“Our task is to provide Ukraine with its own gas and become a gas exporter to Europe,” DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko said.
“To become a guarantor of the EU’s energy security.”
The sites require a detailed geological study to confirm their potential and further industrial development.
