The European Union is ready to completely stop importing gas from Russia, the European Parliament’s Ukrainian-language Telegram messenger channel quoted Cristian Silviu Bușoi, the head of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, as saying on Feb. 26.
“We’ve seen the EU’s determination with the REPOWER program to completely stop importing gas from Russia in order to diversify our gas sources,” the MEP said.
Meanwhile, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the European Union has decided to introduce a ban on the provision of gas storage facilities to Russian citizens.
“The exception is for LNG infrastructure,” Borrell noted, and explained that these measures will allow the EU, among other things, to protect the reliability of gas supplies.
