According to the NBU, the largest reduction took place in the capital city of Kyiv, as well as Kharkiv, Donetsk and Kherson oblasts.

However, more than two-thirds of bank branches were constantly operating in Q4 2022 despite the shelling of energy facilities. Financial institutions continued to restore the operation of their branches in the liberated areas.

The regulator noted that the number of ATMs also decreased. The payment infrastructure (software and technical self-service complexes and payment terminals) was reduced by 16%, from 33,600 to 28,300, mainly due to the war.

In addition, the network of POS terminals decreased from 439,000 to 368,000 in 2022.

Meanwhile, the number of active payment cards remained unchanged during the year, i.e. 46.3 million.
