Ukraine’s Justice Ministry has filed a lawsuit with the High Anti-Corruption Court to seize the Ukrainian assets of Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, the Ministry of Justice reported on Jan. 10.

The Ministry stated that Deripaska controls or owns significant shares of Rusal (one of the world’s largest aluminum producers), Basic Element, and the En+ Group.

The Russian oligarch also runs a military and industrial concern that manufactures armored vehicles used by the Russian armed forces in their full-scale war against Ukraine.

According to the Ministry, Rusal provides aluminum products to Russian defense companies which directly develops, produces, and supplies the Russian armed forces with military equipment, weapons, and ammunition.

“At the same time, some parts of the aluminum products are made from raw materials of Ukrainian origin, namely the production of Mykolayiv Alumina Plant LLC,” reads the report.

The ministry believes these are sufficient grounds for the confiscation of all Deripaska’s Ukrainian property, namely:

  • Mykolayiv Alumina Plant LLC;
  • Glukhiv Quarry Quartzite LLC;
  • Khust Quarry PrJSC;
  • Zhezheliv Quarry PrJSC;
  • Guardon of Ukraine LLC;
  • Company “Aluminum of Ukraine” LLC;
  • Service Center “Metalurg” LLC;
  • CHAS IT LLC;
  • Protection of MGZ LLC;
  • Mykolayiv Accounting Center LLC;
  • Mykolayiv Charitable Foundation “Center of Social Programs”;
  • Zaporizhalumintorg LLC;
  • Zaporizhzhya Production Aluminum Combine JSC;
  • non-residential real estate;
  • equipment, etc.

“Deripaska was sanctioned by Ukraine, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Poland, the Swiss Confederation, Australia, and New Zealand,” said Deputy Justice Minister Iryna Mudra.

“In accordance with international sanctions and due to answers received on requests of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the sanctioned person is a citizen of Russia, who supports the Putin regime by being involved in receiving benefits from the Russian government and production of armored vehicles used by the aggressor country in the war against Ukraine.

She added that the Ministry of Justice had collected a sufficient evidence base to file the lawsuit, with the aim of nationalizing Deripaska’s assets.
