Naftogaz opens one of its most powerful wells in years

Naftogaz, Ukraine’s national fossil fuel company, has started operations at one of its most formidable wells in recent years. This bodes well for future exploration, said Naftogaz CEO, Oleksiy Chernyshov, on his Facebook page on May 24.
The well currently boasts daily gas production of 580,000 cubic meters. With an impressive depth of 5.8 kilometers, this exceptional well has uncovered the untapped potential of an unexplored block located within an eastern field.
The estimated gas resources within this block exceed 6 billion cubic meters, said the Naftogaz CEO.
Preparations are underway for the drilling of two additional wells, one for exploration and the other for reconnaissance.
“The field presents significant prospects, however, it has a complex geological structure characterized by deep fractures that form a block-like pattern. The discovered gas deposits exist under high-temperature conditions with abnormally high reservoir pressures,” said Chernyshov.
The development of this field became feasible thanks to state-of-the-art 3D seismic surveys.
Previous reports indicated Naftogaz’s intentions to bolster production by 1 billion cubic meters and to drill 12 wells in western oblasts in 2023.
