Compared to yesterday, power consumption in Ukraine has increased slightly due to the cold weather, though energy use limits have been increased and fewer power outages are planned, state-owned power company Ukrenergo reported on Telegram on Jan. 22, adding that the company is trying to ensure a more stable power situation during the weekends.

A recent Russian mass missile attack on Jan. 14 caused significant damage to several thermal power plants, Ukrenergo added. There are also drastic temperature changes throughout the country.

“Thanks to the weekend, despite the cold weather, consumption limits for the whole day have been set at all regional branches, which are slightly higher than yesterday,” Ukrenergo reports.

“Exceeding the limits leads to risks of emergency situations in the power system. That is why emergency shutdowns are used to prevent them.”

Power generation in Ukraine decreased as of Jan. 21 due to emergency repairs being conducted at a thermal power plant.
