Russian propaganda channel RT France has ceased operations following an asset freeze caused by recent EU sanctions, the channel announced on Jan. 21.

“After 5 years of relentlessness, the authorities in power have therefore achieved their goal: the closure of RT France,” they wrote on their website.

“Under cover of the 9th package of sanctions against Russia – which does not target our channel, but our shareholder and parent company – the General Directorate of the Treasury has decided to freeze the bank accounts of RT France, making it impossible to continue our work.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France stated that they consider the decision to suspend RT France’s operations in the country to be a legitimate response to unceasing Russian aggression against Ukraine.

RT as a whole has consistently spread baseless accusations and outright lies about Ukraine, and serves as one of the primary instruments of Russian soft power abroad.
