Invading Russian forces have stolen five ships with several tens of thousands of tons of grain from the Berdyansk seaport, the Ukrinform state agency quoted Zaporizhzhya Governor Oleksandr Starukh as saying during a Ukrainian TV interview on March 20.

Citing city residents who were eyewitnesses, Starukh noting that there used to be five grain cargo ships docked at the seaport, some of which were fully loaded, according to customs documents.

"These ships disappeared from the Berdyansk seaport a few days ago. As people say, they were pulled away somewhere by Russian tugs," Starukh said.

The governor stressed that the ships were carrying several tens of thousands of tons of Ukrainian grain.

He added that the location of the vessels was currently unknown, but that the Ukrainian authorities are attempting to clarify this.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Roman Leshchenko, said that food stocks in Ukraine would be sufficient for the coming years.
