Ukraine’s defense industries are developing several types of Toloka underwater torpedoes (or drones) with ranges of up to 2,000 kilometers, the Militarnyi website reported on April 26.

One Toloka prototype was already presented at the Brave1 military exhibition in April.

Three versions are under development:

  • TLK 150 (2.5 meters) – 100 km range, can carry 20-50 kg of explosives
  • TLK 400 (4-6 meters) – 1,200 km range, 500 kg of explosives
  • TLK 1000 (4-12 meters) – 2,000 km range, up to 5,000 kg of explosives.

The drones are equipped with ultrasonic and 3D sonars, hydrophones, cameras, and GPS navigation. They can chart mine clearance maps, as well as identifying underwater and surface objects.

The torpedo works using an inertial navigation system, underwater or during signal jamming.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy initiated a fundraising campaign in Nov. 2022 for a new fleet of naval drones. The government hoped to raise enough to purchase 100 torpedoes.

Lithuania assisted in raising funds for three naval drones for Ukraine.
