Ukraine International Airlines has stopped flights of all aircraft that could perform commercial flights, the specialized publication avianews reported on Oct. 1, with reference to the head of the air carrier trade union Oleksandr Polyanskyi.
UIA has suspended the flights due to a conflict between shareholders, lessors, and the manager, avianews said.
According to the publication, Polyanskyi made this statement at the meeting of the trade union, a copy of the minutes of which were obtained by avianews.
The union said that Yevhen Dykhne remains the current president of UIA according to the state register, but is not performing the functions of the head due to the expiration of the contract and a conflict with shareholders. Because of this, the air carrier cannot make any commercial payments.
Before the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian airline sent five of its aircraft into storage abroad at the request of the lessor.
At the beginning of September, four UIA aircraft were still flying: an Embraer 190 (UR-EMA), a Boeing 737-800 (UR-PSF) and two Boeing 737-900s (UR-PSI, UR-PSL). All of them were flying between destinations in Europe. The last flight by one of these planes was performed on Sept. 30.
Avianews noted that that UIA’s main shareholders – Aron Mayberg and Ihor Kolomoisky – are involved in a long-running corporate conflict. The conflict erupted at the end of 2021 when an attempt was made to replace UIA President Yevhen Dykhne.
It was reported on Sept. 19 that Kyrylo Zvonariov, who was previously the deputy general director of Boryspil Airport, had been appointed as the new president of the airline.
