As Ukraine swelters in summer heat, Ukrainian state energy company Ukrenergo has called on Ukrainians to save energy following a surge in the use of air conditioners.
Ukrenergo said in a message posted on Telegram on July 5 that on the evening of July 4, consumption on the national power grid increased by 9%. Ukrenergo said this was caused by the rise in air temperature and the use of air conditioners.
"With the rise in air temperature, consumption in the power grid in the evening hours yesterday increased by 9% compared to the same period on weekdays last week," the company said.
The period of maximum consumption during the day has also changed. Last week, the evening peak fell between 7 and 10 p.m., but since Monday, peak time widened to 4 to 11 p.m.
Ukrenergo is asking the public to reduce electricity consumption between 4 and 11 p.m. to give the power grid a chance to recover.
Consumers were urged to avoid using powerful appliances in the evening and to not turn on several powerful appliances at once.
