Ukraine’s steel output plunges by almost 70% since start of year

Ukrainian steelworking enterprises have produced 5.84 million tonnes of steel since the beginning of 2022, which is 67.4% less year-over-year, the Ukrmetalurgprom association of metallurgical enterprises reported on Nov. 10.
Specifically, the production of cast iron fell by 67.2% in the 10 months of 2022, to 5.81 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, the output of rolled products declined by 68.6% over the period under review, to 5.02 million tonnes.
According to the World Steel Association, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will lead to a global reduction in steel consumption, as Ukraine was formerly amajor global supplier of both rolled and cast iron steel products.
