Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in April 2022 reduced steel production by a massive 7.4 times compared to the same period in 2021 – to 250,000 tons.
That caused Ukraine to plummet in the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) ranking of the world's major manufacturers of these products, to 36th place out of 64 countries.
At the end of 2021, Ukraine was 14th in the ranking of world steel producers.
In the same month last year, in April 2021, Ukraine produced 1.84 million tons of steel. The drop in production in percentage terms is 86.4%.
Overall, in the four months of 2022, the 64 top steel-making countries produced 619.12 million tons of steel, which is 7.1% less than during the same period in 2021.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian invading forces were trying to steal metal worth $170 million from war-torn Mariupol.
