The Ukrainian government has dismissed Yuriy Vitrenko from the post of head of Naftogaz of Ukraine, according to a message posted on the website of the state company on Nov. 1.

"The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, by its decision of Nov. 1, 2022, satisfied the appeal of the Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko for dismissal," the company said in a statement.

Vitrenko will continue to hold the post of head of the national company through Nov. 3, 2022.

"More detailed communication on this issue will be carried out on the last day of Yuriy Vitrenko's work as chairman of the Board of Naftogaz," the NJSC added.

Minister of Regional Development Oleksiy Chernyshov is the frontrunner to take over at the helm of Naftogaz of Ukraine, MP Oleksiy Honcharenko said on Telegram.

Earlier, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that the Verkhovna Rada may soon liquidate the Ministry of Regional Development by merging it with the Ministry of Infrastructure.

He noted that the dismissal of Oleksiy Chernyshov from the post of the head of the Ministry of Regional Development may be connected with his transition to a new position.

The Ekonomichna Pravda outlet also previously reported that Chernyshov was touted to replace Vitrenko as the head of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

Vitrenko was appointed head of Naftogaz on April 28, 2021, after the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed Andriy Kobolyev from this position. It was reported then that Vitrenko was appointed for a period of one year.
