Beginning with 2022 Beijing Paralympics and afterwards, Belarusian athletes sent messages to Ukrainian sports organizations, arguing that Ukraine should submit to the Russian invasion, head of Ukraine’s Paralympic Committee Valeriy Sushkevych said in an interview with Ukrainian media outlet Tribuna on Dec. 12.

"Many Belarusian athletes wrote to me during the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing and after; they suggested Ukraine should surrender to Russian forces," Sushkevych said.

He cited the words of one of the most prominent Belarusian athletes who supports the Russian invasion.

According to him, one disabled athlete said Ukraine had to experience death, in order to become “wiser.”

Sushkevych also quoted another terrible passage of the Belarusian paralympic: "Ukraine must redeem its guilt before Russia – with blood."

On Dec. 12, International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said he wants Russian and Belarusian athletes to be able to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, even if the war in Ukraine is still going on at that time.
