A midfielder from the English national team expressed his support for the Ukrainian people after a Euro-2024 qualification match – in Ukrainian.

After the match in the mixed zone, midfielder Declan Rice from the English national team and Arsenal answered questions from a Ukrainian sports journalist and concluded his interview with the patriotic phrase, “Slava Ukraini!” (Glory to Ukraine).

National broadcaster Suspilne journalist Katerina Hodunova was so surprised that she was momentarily at a loss for words.

The visibly moved journalist touched the footballer’s shoulder and smiled in gratitude.

The match itself, played in Poland, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Rice plays on the same team as Oleksandr Zinchenko, who scored Ukraine’s goal in the first half of the match.

Video highlights of the goals and a match review of the Ukraine-England game are available on NV’s website.
