The Danish Fencing Federation has decided to cancel an international tournament in Copenhagen, citing the recent decision by the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete, Danish news website NTB reported on March 30.
“We came to the conclusion that unfortunately we can’t go through with it,” said the head of the Danish Fencing Federation, Jan Sylvest Jensen.
“We can’t do it when the rules are as they are now, with the Russians and Belarusians being allowed to participate.”
Earlier, the FIE had supported the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions, despite their countries being classified as “aggressors.”
In response, the National Fencing Federation of Ukraine made the decision not to participate in tournaments where Russian and Belarusian athletes would be present.
