The head coach of football club Dynamo Kyiv, Mircea Lucescu, said that Dynamo’s 1:0 victory over Austrian club Sturm in the first match of the third qualifying round of the Champions League on Aug. 3 was a difficult one, and that the Austrian side played very tight and defended well.

"They are in a better playing rhythm,” the Dynamo manager said.

“They have already started the championship, and we had some problems before the match, when Tsyhankov reported that he felt some pain and we had to urgently replace him in the starting line-up.”

Lucescu added that despite this, he felt that the Ukrainian team “deserved the goal” because it was able to create more chances during play, compared to Sturm. He admitted that while the opponent had a better start to the match, his players were later able to seize the initiative, forcing the nominal guests to defend.

At the same time, the Romanian coach expressed his regret that the Kyiv team couldn't score the second goal to ease their task in the second leg.

Dynamo, in case of success against Sturm in the playoff round of the Champions League, will play against the winner of the pairing Benfica (Portugal) - Midtjylland (Denmark).
