Former Dynamo Kyiv football player killed in Donetsk Oblast

Serhiy Balanchuk, 47, a former football player of FC Dynamo Kyiv, has been killed by artillery fire near the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, the Dynamomania fans website reported on July 9.

Balanchuk joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.

He studied in the "football" class of school No. 170 in Kyiv's Obolon district together with the future stars of the club, namely Oleksandr Shovkovskyi, Vladyslav Vashchuk and Serhiy Fedorov.

He played for FC Dynamo Kyiv, FC Dynamo-2 Kyiv, FC Dynamo-3 Kyiv, Central Sports Club of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Israeli Maccabi Haifa FC, FC Vorskla Poltava, and FC Metalist Kharkiv.

After completing his playing career, Balanchuk received a law degree and worked by profession, and was also a judge of the arbitration court at the Association of Ukrainian Banks.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian wrestler Ihor Pastukh had been killed near the city of Donetsk.
