Ukrainian high jumper Kateryna Tabashnyk spoke out about her mother’s death in a recent Russian missile strike on Kharkiv, in an Instagram post on Aug. 18.

Tearing up, 28-year-old Tabashnyk said the following in the video:

“Hello everyone; I’d like to thank everyone for their support of me and my family in this dark hour,” said Tabashnyk.

“I’m currently on my way back to Ukraine. I will make an effort to respond to everyone (who reached out). I still can’t comprehend what happened. It’s extremely painful and very difficult.”
