Ignoring the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has extended the existing ban on Russian competitors from international events, preventing them from qualifying for 2024 Olympic Games, Russian sport news outlet Sports.ru reported on April 5.
“The FEI management discussed the IOC recommendations of March 28 on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes as individual neutral athletes to compete,” said the head of the FEI, Ingmar de Vos.
“The FEI Council believes that at this stage, neutrality cannot be adequately defined, as the organization doesn’t have the necessary tools to fairly and objectively assess the conditions of participation for individual neutral athletes."
Therefore, Russian riders won’t be able to take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifications.
On March 30, the Ukrainian government banned Ukrainian athletes from participating in international competitions that admit Russian athletes.
