Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics mocked a Twitter tirade about the alleged Russian origins of Ukraine’s national dish, borscht, by Russia’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova, in a Twitter post of his own on July 2.

The traditional soup was included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage on July 1.

Zakharova responded by taking to Twitter to come up with some sort of “historical” proof that borscht has Russian origins, instead.

Rinkevics, apparently telling Zakharova to accept UNESCO’s decision, said “Like it or not, brace yourself, darling,” echoing the crass remark made by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on the fate of Ukraine shortly before the invasion.
