The national team’s head coach, Serhiy Rebrov, reflected on his coaching days at Al-Ain during the Ukrainian war and noted the general lack of concern in the UAE for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in an interview with Bombardier YouTube channel on Sept. 1.

“They really don’t care here,” Rebrov said.

“But I remember, in my team, everyone supported Ukraine. If you recall, when we won the championship in the UAE, everyone took photos with the Ukrainian flag. The whole team stood by us and offered their support.”

“Even now, when Andriy Yarmolenko played in Al-Ain, everyone treated him with respect. When I asked the players, they did mention that they are aware of the war and support Ukraine, but the Emirates is a very neutral country. They don't even allow flags to be brought into the stadium.”

“Yes, you can’t have a flag in the stadium. It was unexpected for me that they allowed me to take the flag. So, the country itself is very neutral, and it’s very difficult to change anything there,” Rebrov said.

Rebrov previously disclosed the Ukrainian squad for the Ukrainian national team’s Euro 2024 qualification campaign.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian national squad member Artem Dovbyk recently expressed his surprise at Spaniards’ positions on the Ukraine conflict.
