Ukraine wins its first medal in the Biathlon World Cup in Germany

Ukraine won a bronze medal in the single mixed relay at the 5th round of the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof, Germany on Jan. 8 – its first medal in this season of the Biathlon World Cup. 

Artem Tyshchenko and Daria Blashko represented Ukraine in the race.

The pair got off to a slow start: in the first round, Tyshchenko used four extra cartridges and passed the baton in eighth position.

Blashko then got through the first round shooting without a single miss, but she had two misses on the second. Still, this allowed her to move up to second place.

In the last two rounds, Tyshchenko and Blashko used three additional cartridges each and finished the race in third place.

Russia won the gold, while the silver was won by Austria.

· 1. Russia - 41.37.1 (1 + 12)

· 2. Austria - 41.5 (1 + 13)

· 3. Ukraine - 1.03.6 (0 + 12)

Previously, the Ukrainian national team ranked in the top 10 finishers in the mixed relay in the fifth round of the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof.
