Ukrainian female weightlifter wins 2021 World Weightlifting Championships

Ukrainian female weightlifter Alina Marushchak has struck gold for Ukraine at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

Marushchak came first in the category of up to 81 kilograms in the double-event on Dec. 15, with a total result of 248 kilos.

At the same time, the 24-year-old Ukrainian won in both the clean-and-jerk and snatch, so becoming the first absolute world champion in weightlifting in the history of Ukraine.

Marushchak also significantly improved on her victorious result at the 2021 European Weightlifting Championships, held in Moscow on April 3-11, 2021, when she lifted a total of 236 kg.

On top of that, Marushchak hass now equaled the record of weightlifter Tymur Taymazov, who won gold medals both in the double-event and individual disciplines in the category up to 108 kilograms at the 1994 World Weightlifting Championships.

Marushchak’s triumph is the first for Ukraine at the World Weightlifting Champioships since 2003.

Ukrainian female weightlifter Nataliya Skakun won the double-event 18 years ago, but she failed to get the best result in the clean-and-jerk and snatch.

Earlier, Ukrainian female weightlifter Mariia Hanhur won in the snatch in the women’s 59 kilo category in Tashkent. She raised a barbell weighing 101 kg over her head at the third attempt.
