Ukrainian athlete Iryna Dekha has become the world champion in weightlifting in the weight category up to 81 kilograms, the Olympic Team of Ukraine reported on Instagram on Dec. 15.
The 26-year-old native of Kharkiv won a gold medal with a result of 122 kg. Another Ukrainian, Alina Marushchak, won the silver medal, having lifted a 119 kg bar.
However, these results did not allow both of them to compete for medals in the double-event. Iryna and Alina stopped a step away from the prize places.
Earlier, Ukrainian weightlifter Kamila Konotop ranked the third in the clean and jerk in the weight category up to 59 kg at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia.
Dekha is a two-time Olympian and a three-time European champion, as well as the winner of the 2017 Summer Universiade.
