Following the discovery of mass graves near the recently liberated town of Izyum on Sept. 15, Ukrainians have begun a new social media campaign with the hashtag #IzyumMassacre.
The campaign involves Ukrainians posting photo of their own wrist with Ukrainian symbols – mirroring released photos of the wrist of an exhumed body wearing a blue and yellow bracelet. Participants say that the pictures represent the feeling that "it could have been any of us. Just because we are Ukrainians.”
The head of the Kharkiv regional police investigation department, Serhiy Bolvinov, said that about 440 graves were found near Izyum.
Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov, said that bodies of civilians with signs of violent death and torture had been found in a mass grave in a forest belt. According to him, 99% of the bodies that have been exhumed show signs of a violent death.
