‘Vikings’ Star Katheryn Winnick posts photo on Instagram in support of Ukraine
Canadian actress of Ukrainian descent Katheryn Winnick, famous for her role in the Netflix original “Vikings” series, posted a photo to her Instagram account on Jan. 29 of her posing in front of the path leading up to Ukraine’s famed Motherland statue in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.
Winnick, who portrays the character Lagertha in the show, captioned the photo with the statement “I stand by my Motherland, Ukraine,” in support of Ukrainian sovereignty amid the looming threat of a renewed Russian invasion.
The post had received 251,670 likes as of press time, and has garnered supportive comments from Winnick’s fellow “Vikings” co-stars – Peter Franzen, Sebastian Roche and others.
Winnick visited Ukraine in September of last year to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of her parents, who originally hail from western Ukraine. As a child, Winnick spoke Ukrainian and was also a member of the Plast National Scout Organization of Ukraine, the largest scout organization in the country.
