Wladimir Klitschko joins the Kyiv Territorial Defense Brigade - photo
Former world boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko has joined the Kyiv brigade of the Territorial Defense Force of Ukraine, his brother and Kyiv city mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, wrote on his Instagram page on Feb. 2.
The published photo shows the Kyiv mayor and his ex-heavyweight champion brother visiting a military recruitment center.
“Friends! I came to check on how the consulting stuff is going for volunteers at the first reservist recruitment center created in the capital,” reads the mayor’s comment under the photo.
“And my brother just happened to hand in an application and his documents – to join the Kyiv territorial defense brigade,”
Wladimir Klitschko is ranked among the richest boxers in history, according to the U.K.-based Manchester Evening News.
Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces were established as a separate military branch on Jan. 1 and serve as a home guard and potential partisan force, combating any attempted enemy military encroachment further into Ukrainian territory.
