As many as 2,000 Russian military officers have been killed in Moscow’s war against Ukraine so far, open-source intelligence (OSINT) project KIU reported via Twitter on March 28.
The analysis is based on publicly available data from Russian sources, such as news websites, funeral notices, and obituaries. Actual Russian KIA numbers could be much higher.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, Russia has lost about 171,730 troops in Ukraine, including 570 on March 27. As of February, Western officials and the U.S.-based think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimated Russia's total losses at 200,000-250,000.
Dan Rice, an American officer, President at the American University Kyiv, and advisor to Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi, told NV that the Ukrainian army is currently eliminating around 25,000 Russian soldiers every month. These are the figures for March, while Moscow’s losses in Ukraine for March in terms of wounded soldiers are at about 75,000.
