20,000 foreign volunteers ready to join Ukraine’s army defensive operation against Russia
Veterans of the Western armies and all those foreign citizens who have willingness to defend Ukraine’s territorial integrity are joining the Foreign Legion within the Territorial Defense, a military group that is a part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to Ukrinform, a state-owned news agency in Kyiv.
As of March 6, 20,000 foreign volunteers applied to join Ukraine’s defensive operation against the Russian invaders, NV was told by an official of the Presidential Office.
The number of U.S. citizens within this group is estimated at 3,000.
Ukrainian law on the national resistance, passed by the country’s parliament, provides a legislative framework for the Territorial Defense that the Foreign Legion is joining. This law became effective on Jan. 1, 2022.
