37 of over 40 missiles launched against Kyiv during mass missile strike intercepted

Russia launched over 40 missiles against Kyiv on Dec. 16, though 37 of them were intercepted, a spokesperson for the Kyiv City Military Administration, Mykhailo Shamanov, said on national television.

"It was one of the most massive strikes since the beginning of the full-scale war," he said.

Utilities workers began repairing as soon as air-raid sirens announced the all clear, Shamanov said.

Kyiv’s municipal administration reported on Telegram that one person was slightly injured in the attack, and was provided with medical aid at the spot.

On Dec. 16, Russia conducted another mass missile strike targeting the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. Air defense systems were operational in a number of oblasts, while explosions were heard in three different neighborhoods in Kyiv.

According to Ukraine's Air Force, Russia launched over 60 missiles against Ukraine in total during the strike.
