Ukraine has repatriated 42 bodies of its defenders, the Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories reported on Telegram on Dec. 27.
Oleh Kotenko, Commissioner on Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances, said the process of repatriating fallen soldiers is complicated and long.
"The swap work is ongoing every day,” he said.
“Despite the complexity and longevity of the negotiations, we try to speed it up. We understand the feelings of every family which is waiting for a body to be returned and commemorated. We will return them all.”
869 bodies of Ukrainian defenders have been recovered from Russian forces since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
On Nov. 22, 3 bodies of those who died fighting against Russian aggression were returned.
On Dec. 6, 49 bodies of fallen defenders were brought back home.
