Germany has handed over two additional MARS II Multiple Launcher Rocket Systems (MLRS) and four Panzerhaubitze-2000 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, the German government said in a message on its website on Oct. 26.
According to the statement, in total Ukraine received five MARS II MLRS and 14 PzH-2000 howitzers – as part of a joint effort with the Netherlands. The report also says that Berlin handed over two naval drones to Kyiv, and is preparing to hand over 6,100 155mm artillery shells and 186,000 shells for 40mm grenade launchers.
This latest package of German security assistance to Ukraine was initially announced on Oct 12.
On Oct. 11, Germany announced it has handed over the first IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine. Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany will transfer three more IRIS-Ts to Kyiv as soon as they are manufactured.
Ukrainian Air Force recently said IRIS-T turned out to be exceptionally effective at securing critical infrastructure against Russian missile and drone strikes.
