Ukraine is still in negotiations with partner nations on the supply of modern fighter jets to the country’s Air Force, Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat explained in a comment to Ukrainian news outlet Babel on Jan. 28.

Ihnat, commenting on an earlier report by the Spanish El Pais newspaper, said that his words were wrongly interpreted, and that neither the model of aircraft, nor their number, have been settled on by Ukraine and its partners.

El Pais claimed that Ukraine expected to receive 24 fighter jets from partner nations. Ihnat added that he believes the number of 24 aircraft was simply the journalist’s speculations, based on his assumption about "a squadron of fighter jets" that Ukraine could possibly receive.

Ukraine has repeatedly requested fighter jets to be delivered from partner nations from the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, though Ukraine’s partners have thus far resisted these calls.
