Ivan Lukerya, Deputy Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, has announced his resignation.

In a Facebook post on Jan. 24, he said his resignation has nothing to do with the dismissal of his colleague, Vasyl Lozynskyi.

On Jan. 24, Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers dismissed Vasyl Lozynskyi, Deputy Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, from his post after he had been detained on suspicion of accepting a $400,000 bribe. Lozynskyi is also suspected of being a member of an organized criminal group.

“I thank my colleagues and partners in the government, parliament, and the Office of the President of Ukraine,” Lukerya said.

“We thank every head of regional administrations and city mayors. I made the decision (to resign) at the beginning of the year, but, unfortunately, due to political and bureaucratic circumstances, the legal formalization coincided with this week. Unfortunately.”
