Activists protesting illegal mining operations in the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh blockaded a road and preventing a Russian military column from crossing it, according to a video shared on social media on Dec. 21.
The Russians can be seen attempting to persuade the activists to let them pass, stressing that they were allegedly "peacekeepers", but to no avail.
"Citizens of Azerbaijan, let the column of the Russian peacekeeping contingent pass,” one of the Russian soldiers said.
“I repeat, citizens of Azerbaijan, make way. Let the column of the Russian peacekeeping contingent pass.”
After continued refusals by the Azeri activists, the Russian soldier ordered the column to turn around and go back.
