Belarus has no intention of becoming an active participant in the war in Ukraine yet, U.S. Department of Defense spokesperson John Kirby said during a press briefing on May 5.

"(There are) no indications that Belarus has intentions to become active in the war in Ukraine," Kirby said, commenting on concerns around military exercises currently being conducted in Belarus.

"But we're not tracking indications that they're planning to or intend to get involved directly in the war in Ukraine."

In an interview with the Associated Press on May 5, Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko said he had no plans to take part in the war against Ukraine.

According to Lukashenko, Russia is not demanded anything from Belarus in this war, so his country has no plans to intervene.

He added that he had not expected Russia's war in Ukraine to last this long.
