Belarusian special forces soldiers crossed the state border of Ukraine in February 2022 along with the Russian occupiers, editor-in-chief of the independent Belarusian news site Charter 97, Natalya Radina, told Radio NV on May 25.
"We can't speak about some kind of only partial participation because Russian forces invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 from the territory of Belarus. There were not Russian troops alone, but a part of the Belarusian Special Operations Forces invaded Ukraine with them as well. They wore Russian military uniforms, but we have data that they were there," she said, referring to sources in defence ministries of Belarus and Ukraine.
"Even Belarusian radios were found with Belarusian codenames. People heard Belarusian dialect and saw Belarusian aircraft in the sky. Therefore, surely, we need to investigate this further," Radina said.
Most of the Belarusian soldiers who invaded Ukraine together with Russians, were killed. It caused "insight for Belarusian authorities about where it would lead,” she said.
"But the fact that they were there is already undeniable. It's true," the journalist said.
Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are creating a so-called union state of Russia and Belarus. Russia already controls almost all the Belarusian state, said Francišak Viačorka, Senior Advisor to the Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
About 2,8000 Russian soldiers were in Belarus as of the beginning of May, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
