Belgium will provide Ukraine with 240 Volvo military trucks, with the first vehicles to arrive as soon as next week, Flemish newspaper De Standaard reported on March 16.

The Belgian army owns around 400 Volvo trucks, including lifting vehicles and breakdown trucks. Current plans see the country replacing them in 2023.

Close consultations were held with Ukraine on whether the aid would meet Ukrainian defense needs to diffuse allegations that Belgium was simply offloading “old junk.”

"There is close consultation on this with the Ukraine Defence Contact Group. Nothing is being delivered to the Ukrainians that they have not asked for and need themselves. The focus is often on arms deliveries, but the Ukrainian units are also really waiting for these trucks. During a conflict, logistics are at least as important as weapons,” Belgian Minister of Defense Ludivine Dedonder said.
